MAC is highly involved in the community. The MAC PAC is often talked about as the volunteer arm of our organization. It is comprised at this time of mostly MAC employees, but anyone is welcome to join the MAC PAC and be part of our volunteer team. The MAC PAC gives time and resources to local non-profits and events throughout the year. Volunteerism is promoted and supported at every level in the organization and our team takes pride in our community efforts and involvement.
With an average of 45 employees in 2018, MAC employees provided over 717 hours of community service. From the front lines of the soup kitchen to the many behind-the-scenes charitable events, filling gift boxes for our soldiers overseas, and offering financial education events in our schools, MAC employees show they care for our community. In 2018 alone the MAC PAC has helped the following non-profits in various ways: Project Homeless, American Red Cross, American Heart Association, Financial Reality Foundation, United Way, Fairbanks Chamber, Relay for Life, Ford Peanut Butter Drive, Nissan Fill the Car for Kids, BCDC, Denali Center, Boys and Girls Club, Stone Soup, Fairbanks Rescue Mission, Fairbanks Food Bank, and Bright Futures Fairbanks.
In 2018 the MAC did something new. Our volunteer group MAC PAC reached out to Nissan with the idea of “Fill the Car for Kids” The goal of the project was to help provide school supplies to those children who are considered homeless. Starting with the information that there are on average 500 homeless children in the Fairbanks Area. This could mean anything from children who are literally on the streets, too maybe just in really difficult situations, maybe the parents just lost their job or house, or teens that are sleeping on a friend’s couch.
It was a natural partnership, as Nissan has a heart for kids and we have a heart for education. We both wanted the kids/teens to not worry about being singled out for being different. By providing them with individual school supplies it was a way of equipping them to be in class with the supplies they needed in order to focus on learning. Our MAC PAC also donated additional money to Bright Futures to help with technology fees and required gym uniforms for the older kids. With the Nissan car fully loaded, we delivered all the school supplies to Bright Futures, who worked with teachers throughout the Fairbanks North Star School District. It is the teachers who have the best insight and knowledge of the needs and we trust that they were met!
