Your Security, our Priority

Security FAQ:

Q. Will MAC FCU ever call and ask for my Card number and PIN number for any reason?
A. No. MAC FCU already has this information and would never ask for it for any reason. Phishers use any number of "stories" to lure you into complacency. One of the more devious tactics is to solicit information from you because your account has been "frozen" or "suspended." Never give out your personal account information without first verifying the identity of the person calling. If you have any questions, hang up and call our regular number to verify that it is really MACFCU that is placing the call.

Q. Does MAC FCU have a fraud department that will call and inquire about specific transactions on my Debit or ATM card?
A. Yes. MAC FCU has a special division called Card Member Security which will call and inquire about specific transactions that have been processed on your card if the transactions are suspicious. If the transactions are coming from a country or state that has never processed transactions against your card before, then your card may be temporarily blocked until those transactions can be verified. The number for Card Member Security is 1-888-241-2440 inside the US and 1-909-941-1034 outside the US . You can also call our regular number and we can verify transactions and unblock your card.

Q. What kind of internet protection is employed at MAC FCU?
A. Our IT systems are protected with state of the art equipment to prevent unauthorized access. All information entering and exiting the credit union is encrypted to a level above industry standard.

Q. Who can I contact if I have questions about the security of my information?
A. You can call the credit union regular line at anytime during business hours and member services will direct you to the appropriate person; or you can email macmail@macfcu.org and we will respond to your inquiry by the next business day.

Phishing, Vishing, and now SMiShing

As e-mail spam filters have become more sophisticated, fraudsters have turned to other socially engineered methods that prey on consumers' trust. The common use of mobile devices makes smishing an easy scheme. SMS/text-based banking, which is quickly growing to become a mainstream mobile banking service, is helping to set the stage for smishing. We are trying to get the word out so you are educated in what fraudsters and scam artists are using to steal your information. We want our members to be as informed as possible so they are not taken advantage of.

You will never receive an SMS message from us saying, "Your card has been breached, call us". We will especially never ask you to call in, email or text us your card number, expiration date of the card, or the 3 security numbers on the back of the card. Please remember this the next time that you receive an email, call, or text message from someone purporting to be MAC Federal Credit Union. If you do receive a message like this, do not use the contact information given in the message. Call our general service line at local 356-1253 or toll free 1-877-883-1253 or use our general email inbox at macmail@macfcu.org.
